You probably got yourself a great laptop, except for the warranty issue, and the backlit keyboard. I always tell people who are looking to buy a 2nd hand laptop to ask the seller for the laptop model/part number, and the serial number, and in the case of a dell laptop, i tell them to ask for the sellers name, phone number and email address, plus the service tag, then call the manufacturer with those details, and seek advice on the warranty status, and/or how the transfer of warranty or ownership can be handled, and only buy it IF you are sure everything checks out ok. I already asked support for help, and they said it wasn’t possible, which is interesting since another Dell customer, with the exact same kind of laptop I have, posted on that same site saying that they were able to successfully download the Alienware Command Center, then change. With 2nd hand laptops, well its very hit and miss as well, and a seller might list their laptop as working fine, but it turns up faulty, and you have to fight to get it resolved. I’ve been trying to find a way to change the backlighting color for my keyboard on my G5 5500 laptop.

With new laptops, most of the issues are related to unauthorized re-sellers and warranty problems with laptops sold by these people. I personally would never buy any laptop (new or 2nd hand) from anyone in ebay, or from grays online, and because i know how ebay and grays online works with new laptops, and the warranties associated with them, i have always warned people to be very careful if doing it themselves. Im not sure what your reason was for buying a laptop from grays, maybe you got it for a pretty cheap price, but cheap can often have its pitfalls, as you have recently found out yourself.
